This article is about the mineral block. For the ingot, see Steel Ingot.
A Block of Steel is a precious metal block equivalent to nine Steel Ingots. Blocks of Steel can also be used to create a variety of useful building blocks.
Obtaining
Breaking
Blocks of Steel can be mined only with a Stone Pickaxe or better. If a Block of Steel is mined without the use of a pickaxe, it drops nothing.

Rusting
By default (without waxing), Blocks of Steel will rust into Blocks of Rusted Steel when directly exposed to water or other rusted blocks.
The "natural" rusting of Blocks of Steel relies only on random ticks. Rain, water, and other rusted blocks will contribute to rusting, but covering Blocks of Steel with other blocks without rust will prevent rusting.
When a random tick is given and a Block of Steel is able to rust, it will rust 100% of the time.
Rusting is irreversible.
Waxing
To combat the effects of rusting, Blocks of Steel can be waxed.
Once placed, Blocks of Steel can be waxed by right clicking on them with a piece of honeycomb.
Waxing is irreversible, unless a waxed Block of Steel is broken and placed again.
Waxing causes no aesthetic change, unlike rusting. It does, however, make Blocks of Steel slippery.
